World Mosquito Day 2015: Binkie Meets the Tsar

Date: Thursday 20 August 2015
Time: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Venue: Library, LSHTM, Keppel Street, London, WC1E 7HT, UK

August 20th is World Mosquito Day, commemorating that date in 1897 when Sir Ronald Ross confirmed the Anopheles mosquito as the vector that carries malaria. This year’s commemorations explore events in January 1912 when Sir Ronald arrived in St Petersburg on the Tsar’s personal train as part of official delegation to the Russian Duma. Records and artefacts from the trip, which included a visit to the Russian Malaria Commission and several lavish banquets, are held by the Library and Archives Service at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
