The Centre’s mission is:

  • To promote and undertake high quality research and teaching which contributes historical understanding to key areas of contemporary concern, especially regarding health systems, public health and communicable and non-communicable diseases in Britain, Europe and internationally.
  • To contribute, through its unique location in a world leading public health institution, distinctive perspectives in historical scholarship
  • To engage directly with public and policy audiences, working in partnership to bring the insights of history to knowledge translation and the improvement of policy debate
